The Best Campaign Response in the History of Mankind

As long as I can remember, there have always been those seminal moments, those unforgettable quips or campaign releases that really just sum up a race.

Often times, they don't even mean to do so - the words, the response, the news of the day, the general state of the state... the stars align and we get a so fundamentally perfect line, a perfect answer, a perfect response -- that you have to sit back and admire it.

In light of HRC's new Daisy ad -- and the importance of 3 AM

Per Politico.

My colleague Carrie Budoff Brown e-mails from an Obama campaign conference call (big day for conference calls):

A reporter asked whether Clinton should drop out after Ohio and Texas. Obama adviser Richard Danzig responded:

"I would encourage you on March 5 to call Sen. Clinton at 3 a.m. and ask that question."

Gotta say....

That's really just damn hilarious - and perfectly done.

Whatever happens the rest of this campaign, Richard Danzig takes home the "Quote of the Year".

Where did the moving the goalposts thread go?  I think the original poster was hoping to get support from Clinton fans about the idea that losing 4 states closely would be a victory for her.  Once the comments came in, poof.

Too bad, I was enjoying it.

It's a good one liner.  But if it helps people to read overconfidence, smugness, or a deliciously gooey hubris and nougat center, then by all means do so.

But the idea of the goal posts being moved is completely accurate.  When this four state contest came into focus, right after Wisconsin, it was "her firewall," which would stop his momentum, net her some delegates, and allow her to move on to Pennsylvania.  She was gonna clobber him in Texas and Ohio.

Then she was going to "win" them.

Then she "looks good" in Ohio, but Texas is tight.

And, now, Obama has to sweep all four states to maintain momentum, and anything less is a Clinton victory.  

I hope Adam Vinatieri is on Team Obama!  It's tough to kick it through when the posts move this much!

I totally recc'd that one, I think the fact that every single comment was one of us laughing might have made some sort of impression. Seriously though that was the single dumbest spin I've ever seen, I want to here them claim winning NY as proof Obama can't carry a large Blue NE state.

A confident person would have said something along the lines of, "I am confident that Senator Obama's capacity to perform admirably under considerable pressure and strenuous circumstances is equal, if not superior to, Ms. Clinton's."

A smug person makes a self-satisfied, cocky crack like Danzig made, which is basically an invitation to harass Senator Clinton in the middle of the night.

As Is aid when I first saw this, it will be ineffecitve -- she can't play the fear card because she already lost on judgment.

That is his greatest liability i.e. experience , national security and foreign policy.

polls continue to show that and his response shows it is still a liability.
